Storyboard Artist: Aarti Bhalekar
Illustration: Aditya Dutta and Aarti Bhalekar
Animation: Mehr Chatterjee

I was responsible for creating the storyboard and designing the character looks for the motion ident. With the storyline already set, I storyboarded how the scenes and transitions could potentially play out. Once the storyboard was finalized, we began developing the characters. Since there were five droplets, each representing a unique personality trait, we personified them to bring their individual characteristics to life.

Holi is a Hindu festival that celebrates the end of past mistakes, forgiveness, and new beginnings. It is a day to forgive, forget, and foster new friendships.

In the ident, a mischievous black droplet, despite its playful and notorious behavior of throwing colours at others, is ultimately embraced with kindness and forgiveness by the other paint droplets.

Storyboard Breakdown

Scene 01
A mischievous black paint droplet fires paint balls at a green droplet. The splashes wipe across the screen, creating a smooth transition into the next scene.
Scene 02
The black droplet runs around playfully, bumping a pink droplet into a yellow one. The two merge into an angry, fiery droplet that starts chasing the black one.
Scene 03
Trying to escape, the black droplet throws a water balloon at a blue droplet. The blue droplet becomes sad and starts to cry, splashing water around.
Scene 04
The chase continues until all the colorful droplets catch up to the black one. They surround it, share a hug, and merge together, forming the vibrant Nickelodeon logo.

Character Exploration

1. Before finalising the characters, I explored a variety of droplet shapes to capture distinct personality traits and emotional expressions for each character.

Red: Angry, Blue: Sad, Green: Somber & Cute, Pink & Yellow: Quirky

2.Visual explorations of droplet forms and personalities were developed to define the emotional range of each character, before Aditya took over and refined them further.

3.Final Characters: The completed set of droplet characters, polished and finalised for the ident.
